COVID-19 Patient Information

LATEST UPDATE (10/22/2020):
After careful consideration and with the support from Governor Northam, Virginia Eye Institute has decided to resume regular operations at the VEI Hearing Center on Monday, May 4th.

As you can imagine, it will be a very different environment upon reopening and we will be very attentive to all elements of social distancing and precautionary safety measures given the continued threat posed by the COVID-19 virus. We are implementing careful operational restrictions and sanitation measures in order to maintain appropriate social distancing among all of our patients and staff. We will still be able to provide Telemedicine services as well for patients who would rather receive care virtually.

Please note that there are exceptions to the visitor policy:

  • 1 Parent or caregiver with a child
  • 1 Required medical decision-maker with adults
  • 1 Caregiver for patients unable to ambulate by themselves
  • 1 Caregiver for patients that need assistance with translation

To protect the health and safety of all of our patients and our entire staff, we are requesting that any patients who come see us at any of our office locations for an in-person appointment wear a protective mask during their visit. If you do not currently have a mask, watch the tutorial video below from Headspace that shows how to make your own at home out of fabric or cloth – without sewing!

At the VEI Hearing Center, our patients and associates are like family. As COVID-19, the coronavirus, continues to have an increased impact on communities around the globe, we feel it is important to connect directly with you to share more about the steps we’re taking to ensure our patients and associates remain safe and in good health.

COVID-19

In Our Clinic

  • Patients and family members must wear a mask or facial covering based on state health recommendations
  • We are ensuring slit lamp protective shields are used at all times
  • We are recommending pre-registering online before coming to your scheduled appointment
  • Changing patient flow in our office to minimize crowding, limiting visitors allowed in our lobby, making arrangements for social distancing in our waiting area, and asking patients to wait in their cars until we are ready
  • ALL patients and visitors will be screened for coronavirus risk factors using the CDC guidelines at the entrance to our facilities to ensure contamination within the office is minimized
  • Cleaning common areas more often, including handrails, steps, kiosks, check-in/out stations, chairs, countertops, exam rooms, phones, computers, and doorknobs
  • We will have cleaning services throughout the day for the waiting areas and associates will continually wipe down high touch areas (door handles, key boards, counter tops, etc.) with an FDA-approved registered disinfectant
  • Sanitizing restrooms more frequently and restocking with supplies, including soap, paper towels, and hand sanitizer
  • Adding extra hand sanitizer at front desk areas, clinical areas, and reminding everyone to practice proper hand hygiene
  • Continuing to wipe down all surgery rooms, exam rooms and equipment, computers, and furniture after every patient visit
  • Partnering with our suppliers to replenish high-demand preparedness products

For Our Associates

  • All VEI Hearing Center associates will be screened for coronavirus risk factors using the CDC guidelines at the entrance to our facilities and are encouraged to diligently monitor their own health and well-being to prevent contamination within the office
  • Asking our associates to stay home if they, or someone in their household, are sick
  • Providing hand sanitizer and tissues in break rooms and meeting rooms and practicing social distancing
  • Suspending business air travel for associates, reducing travel between locations and holding virtual meetings

For Our Patients

  • Encouraging our patients to follow the CDCs suggested hygiene practices to reduce the spread of the virus
  • Recommending that patients reschedule their appointments if they have experienced fever, cough, or shortness of breath over the last 7 days, or have traveled outside Virginia or any high-risk areas affected by coronavirus in the past 14 days
  • To protect the health and safety of all of our patients and our entire staff, we are requesting that any patients who come see us at any of our office locations for an in-person appointment wear a protective mask during their visit
  • Recent studies have shown gaiters and bandanas are not as effective in stopping droplets. If you enter wearing a gaiter or bandana, you will be asked to put on a surgical mask provided by VEI instead
